The Water Pool

The water pool – (placed at a height of 490m) – at first just a granary (horreum) – building that was subsequently turned into a tank.

The pool could stand by its own, in case of siege, the need of water for the military and the horses in the cavalry. The outside plaster of the pool allowed the retention of a significant water volume. The water came from the springs that were placed in Meseş Mountain (at 530 m) and they were channeled in the tanks placed 4.5 km away.

The water in the Meseş pools was transported in the clay aerial or subterranean aqueducts, on the freefall principle (difference in level).
